Bespoke glass sculptures signed by artist Amanda Brisbane, dinner sets with 22 carat gold trimmings crafted by Germany-based Falken Porzellan, ceramic sets by William Edwards who has been commissioned in the past by England's royal family, and rare Portuguese antiques — these will be on display this weekend at the Lodhi Hotel in Delhi. These bespoke brands are being brought to India by Interarts, an art consultancy and promoter of objets d’art.
The exhibition features a number of special pieces, according to Akshay Sethi, executive director of the consultancy that is promoted by UK-based Synthesis Arts and is based in Indore. “Each of the Amanda Brisbane pieces are handcrafted and personally signed by her. They start at Rs 60,000 and go up to Rs 2 lakh. Then there are very rare Portuguese urns that are 100 years old and are very special,” says Sethi. Another must-buy is the Falken Porzellan 12-piece set that comes with a 100-year warranty for the gold used in them and costs Rs 1.9 lakh. “The Moorcroft Pottery house has created pieces with a glaze so rich that it gives them a unique shine. These are numbered, limited edition pieces,” says Sethi, “The Shakespeare Glass articles are very impressive. There are so many layers of colours and textures that the pieces reflect different wavelengths of light throughout the day.”
Says Manju Dewaan, who runs an interior design firm along with her daughter Gayatri in Bangalore: “Interarts offers collections that you can’t even find in the markets of London under one roof.”
Interarts has distribution rights for 27 international luxury brands in 10 Indian cities. The consultancy’s collection today has 30,000 products; 90 per cent of these pieces are exclusive to them. “It’s because we have been avid collectors ourselves that these artists and designers trust us.”
Kolkata-based tea planter Sanjay Dalmia is all praise for the Sethis’ discerning eye. “They pick up the pieces personally. It is very different from purchasing these articles from a store,” says Dalmia who prizes the 12-piece gold plated Falken Porzellan dinner set that he bought from Interarts.
