Ornaments for Christmas

We all love those beautiful, glittering stars, cupids, bells, balls and figurines hanging from (real) fir trees. But while, this season, you may like to pick up many such pretty pieces in the usual papier mache, there are some ornaments that are meant, strictly, to be collectibles. They are obviously more expensive and can be passed on as heirlooms:

Twinkle, twinkle...
Swarovski, the leading Bohemian brand of precision-cut crystal, has been coming out with its annual limited edition ornament for the last 16 years.

This year, the company has developed an elegant star with elaborate, detailed points, in faceted clear crystal. There is a satin hanger band and a metal tag, bearing the year 2007, makes this an even more precious collectible. Available at strores for Rs 3,995.

The Bunnykins
Royal Doulton, porcelain and earthenware makers, are famous for their Bunnykins "" a family of rabbits and friends "" figurines for 70 years now.

The first design was drawn by Sister Mary Barbara, daughter of Royal Doulton's general manager, who joined the Augustine Order at a young age. Her father's bedtime stories about foxes and rabbits inspired a series of drawings and Cuthbert realised that no-one would be better at designing scenes for a fresh series of nurseryware than his daughter.

Lladro bell
Beautiful Christmas bells and balls, made each year by Lladro artists, are high on the collectibles list. New for 2007 is a "ReDeco" version of the bell and the ball. This version is done in white and gold and is a lovely complement to the classic blue and white version. Engraving on the porcelain has angels bringing in good wishes. $65.
