Subtitled The Mathematical Breakthroughs That Changed The World, this book is awesomely ambitious. Not just in the millennial span of the subject it tackles, but in its attention span expectations of the target readership: lay folk who wonder why math is such a big deal anyway (it doesn't even have a Nobel prize).

Be warned, it could take months on end to read, and not just for its length. Despite Stephen Hawking's exemplary skills of intelligent simplification (not to mention the sparkle of his wit), one could be left on an utterly dazed note every other chapter.

In all, Godel's theorem poses perhaps the biggest challenge in taking this book to completion.
