This summer, forget the Swiss Alps, Salzburg and the Rocky mountains. Instead, head for the just opened Wildflower Hall resort in Mashobra (roughly 380 km from Delhi). Perched at 8,500 feet in the Himalayas, the hotel is surrounded by dense pine forests and has a 360 degree panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges.

Once the home of Lord Kitchener, British commander-in-chief during the Raj, this new resort has been rebuilt to exacting standards by the Oberoi group. For those who have been to The Cecil in Shimla, this hotel takes luxury a notch higher.

It provides every conceivable indulgence in its 86 rooms and suites. A spa, a heated swimming pool, a gym and tennis courts as well as a library with a selection of books, music and video discs are part of the facilities.

A special restaurant for children is included. But the most exhilarating experience is in the outdoors. Private excurions in a chauffeur driven car to the nearby hills and forests with picnic hampers are reminiscent of Julie Andrews and brood in The Sound of Music.

Peak season (1st May to 30th June) rack rates are Rs 10,000 for a deluxe room. Also on offer are several packages for a couple for 2 nights and 3 days: The Spa Experience (Rs 22,500), The Romantic Retreat (Rs 19,000) and The Magical Getaways (Rs 23, 500). Enjoy.
