A pet parrot is being hailed as a hero after the bird flapped its wings, squawked and scared away a man who assaulted its owner in a park here.
The 25-year-old woman was taking the pet African Grey parrot for a walk in Sunny Hill Park in Hendon, last week, when the attack happened.
A man grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her to the ground with both hands.
"This was a random attack on a woman walking out of a park," police said.
"Although the parrot Wunsy come to her rescue, we are obviously very keen to trace the suspect and prevent him from attacking anybody else," they said.
The woman and the parrot were unharmed by the assault, police said.
