Ford has launched the all-new Ranger pickup and it looks pretty promising. If you're wondering how the Ranger is of any relevance to us, the old Ranger and our very own Ford Endeavour share the same underpinnings. And remember the Splash? The twin-cab pickup in bright yellow they showed off a couple of Auto Expos ago? |
The new Ranger showcases a 2500cc common-rail Duratorq engine which delivers 143 bhp and churns out 33 kgm at 1800 rpm along with a host of other features like ABS, side-airbags, a rear stabiliser and new hydraulic brakes. Could this mean a new Ford Endeavour for us then? No... not yet. |

Porsche unveiled the new 911 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The car has a 415 bhp 3600cc flat twin engine that Porsche claims is the fastest naturally aspirated 3600cc engine in the world. |
|
The new GT3 also gets a larger variable intake system, better designed cylinder heads, an exhaust system with lower back pressure, a revised low ratio six-speed transmission, Porsche's active suspension management, and the traction control from the Carrera GT "" technology which translates into a even better handling, faster GT3. |
|
Porsche claims that the new GT3 does a 0-100 kph run in 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 310 kph. Get inside the car and you'll see a lit up rev counter with a new heads-up display and a shift light. Before you can turn the key and head for the track, snap back to reality, the new 911 GT3 costs the equivalent of Rs 64,00,000 in the United Kingdom. So that's double that for India, eh? |

Electric avenue |

I-SAM is Volvo's new heavy vehicle hybrid concept which attacks fuel consumption in stop-and-go traffic. It consists of integrated starter, drive motors and an alternator which automatically switch on when the vehicle comes to a halt. |
|
I-SAM can haul the vehicle from a standing start. Auxiliary systems like the air con and lights are also capable of running off the electric motor. The I-SAM is being put through rigorous tests but don't expect to see the I-SAM on a Volvo before the next couple of years. |
