Walking through the shops in Forum Courtyard, the well-known shopping destination in south Kolkata, it’s hard to miss Trezo. This newest addition to the array of retail outlets selling international apparel and cosmetic brands brings in the unique ‘racks on rent’ concept.

This initiative of the Forum Group offers designers four-foot racks on rent to showcase their collections. “We’ve tried to provide upcoming designers with a retail infrastructure and give them a platform to mark their presence and display their creations at a minimum investment,” says Kamna Saraf, who is supervising the project. The racks are rented out at Rs 25,000 per month or 35 per cent of the sale, whichever is higher.

With a collection of designer clothes, shoes, accessories, bags, and even bridal wear, the store has something for almost every range of buyers. Prices start from Rs 2,000 and go up to Rs 20,000. On display are collections of designers like Vasavi Shah, Nupur Gupta, Shilpa K, Stuti Modi and labels such as Verve and Fikshion.

Also present are established brands such as Kisses and Kyra by Komal Sood. “It’s great exposure for young designers to find a place amidst international brands,” says Vasavi Shah, a Kolkata-based designer whose collection is available at Trezo.

The response from young designers has been overwhelming, says Saraf who now hopes to expand the business. “It’s a baby step forward to an optimistic business strategy along with promoting new talent in the fashion industry,” says Saraf.
