Multi Screen Media's general entertainment channel Sony Entertainment Television (SET) is bringing back supernatural drama with Bhoot Aaya. The weekly show which will premier on 13 October (Sunday) at 11.00 pm will show real life experiences of 'victims' with supernatural elements.
Produced by Cinetek Telefilms Pvt Ltd, the show will have dramatised accounts of real life experiences of people who have encountered supernatural elements interspersed with inputs from the real life victims and experts from the Indian Paranormal Society.
Aloka Guha, VP & Head – Non-Fiction Programming, Sony Entertainment Television said, “Existence of the supernatural has always been questioned, however it arouses a lot of curiosity and many people believe in it. We hope that after this show airs, many people will be able to make up their own mind on what the real truth is!”
The show will replace SET's popular crime docu-drama Crime Patrol which will now air twice a week. Gaurav Seth, senior vice preident and head marketing, SET says, “We have have seen that the Sunday night 11.00 pm slot. Crime Patrol has seen very good viewership at that time so we are sure that there is a market to be tapped into there.”
The show targets males and females above 15 years across Sec A, B and C throughout the country. All the cases presented in the show have been taken from the books of the Indian Paranormal Society. The channel has not yet decided the number of episodes the show will have, but did not rule out the possibility of making it a seasonal property.
In the past, SET has had success in the horror/supernatural genre with its series Aahat. The show which launched in 1996 had five seasons up until 2010 when it finally went off air. Its most recent experiment with the supernatural met with a lukewarm response as the show Anamika (launched in November 2012) which ran for 10 months before being taken off air on 13 September 2013.
Interestingly, the show will launch on 13 October, a date associated with supernatural occurrences in some folklore. The show is being promoted on ground and on air with promos that bring out the essence of the show – that the supernatural does exist, it is only a matter of believing.
