DASTKAR NATURE 2013
Dastkar is back with its annual mela, which promises a range of jewellery, accessories, home decor items, paintings and footwear under one roof. Showcasing the work of over 160 crafts groups, NGOs and designers from across India, the highlight at this event include the metal inlay bidri craft from Karnataka, the thamba copper-wares from Pune, the unique phool patti ka kaam or embroidered applique work from Uttar Pradesh and the floral art of sholapith from West Bengal. You can also learn these traditional crafts from expert artisans during demonstrations and workshops.

When: October 18-27, 11 am to 7 pm

A DOSE OF CULTURE AT EPICENTRE
Epicentre, which has in a very short time become Gurgaon's cultural hub, will be hosting the fourth edition of its Diwali mela. Organised in collaboration with NGO Ode to Earth the event will showcase wares by 100 artisans and 40 exhibitors. You can choose from ornate diyas and candles, festive wear, furnishings, jewellery and silverware. Every evening, Epicentre will host a cultural evening - while the first two days will feature the traditional Ram Lila, the third evening will resound with filmy music as part of the Bollywood night.

AN ANNUAL FIXTURE
The Blind Relief Association's annual Diwali mela is one of the most anticipated events every festive season. A great hit with those interested in decorating and redecorating their homes, the mela features stalls from the association, NGOs and independent designers and merchants. It even has demonstrations in massage therapies, which its students have been trained in. The NGOs are given special preference, with free table-space granted to them to showcase their wares. There will be an assortment of gift items like lamps, candle stands, decoration pieces, apart from potted plants and terracotta merchandise on display and for sale.

When: October 26 to November 1, 10.30 am to 8 pm

HANDMADE MARVELS
The Chinmaya Mission's Delhi chapter organises a Diwali mela each year, in a bid to showcase and promote local handicrafts and merchandise. The usual line-up of items on sale consists of lamps, candles, diyas, handmade paper items and decorative items for the home. Most of these are hand-made, some being sold by the NGOs who set up shop here. Apart from the usual items on sale, this year will see some focus of artificial jewellery as well.
