The obese in Chandigarh now do not have to spend money on slimming centres; now the job can be done for a few hundred rupees.

A Delhi-based entrepreneur, Chandan Wadhani, has set up his shop 'Just My Size' in the city for those who are oversized but fashion-conscious.

By making a clever use of fabrics like linen and lycra, using small prints, checks and motifs and other slimming techniques, the outfits have been designed to give the customer a sleek look.

Talking to Business Standard Wadhani said his frequent visits to Western countries inspired him to plunge in this innovative business.

"The concept of 'tall and big; is very popular and lucrative there. But in our country it is in its infancy. I also observed people have the purchasing power but not the time to pay visits to the tailors. So I launched my own outlet in Delhi last year, which was a big hit," said Chandan.

'Just my size' is a brand name owned and run by SNG Clothing Company and has a manufacturing unit in Delhi. The company has its in-house designing team and designs both summer and winter wear. About 4,000 pieces of casual wear are prepared every month, said Wadhani.

The SNG Clothing Company operates two outlets (one each in Delhi and Gurgaon) and Chandigarh is the third one.

According to Wadhani, the entire northwest belt is an important market for their products and they would expand in the region in a step-by-step manner.

He expressed the customers coming to their outlet needed privacy, as they were sensitive about their weight. So they do not intend to occupy space in the shopping malls. They offer the largest size up to 64 inches of waist.

Chandan believes that there is tremendous potential for this business as the changing food habits, coupled with sedentary life style, results in accumulation of flab and such people in India are increasing rapidly in numbers.

For the time being, there are no plans for export as there is a huge potential in the domestic market, he added.
