Artist Anish Kapoor, whose whirlpool of black water at the last Kochi Biennale made headlines, has created a large concave stainless steel installation , which will feature in Saffronart's upcoming evening sale. "The interesting thing about a polished surface to me is that when it is really perfect enough something happens - it literally ceases to be physical; it levitates; it does something else, especially on concave surfaces," notes Kapoor.

And, those who prefer a work by one of India's most expensive artists can pick up a 1971 painting by V S Gaitonde. The work features layers of orange, rust and umber.

For the style-conscious, there's nothing better than a made-to-measure garment. It takes 150 steps to create a Corneliani custom-made jacket; a suit takes not fewer than 500 hand stitches. There are about 100 fabrics in nearly 500 different colours - apart from linings, lapel styles and buttons - to choose from.

The custom-made line features time-honoured techniques of cutting and sewing, paired with fabrics from some of the world's most renowned mills. All made-to-measure orders have initials of the customer.

Luxury in a bottle - or a barrel

The "own a barrel" concept by Nashik-based boutique winery Vallonne Vineyards makes an ideal gift for wine enthusiasts. How it works: customers could taste wines from the winery's various barrels and choose a barrel. Two varieties are on offer: cabernet sauvignon and merlot. The buyer's name is then pasted on the carefully crafted personalised wine barrel. At the end of six or nine months, depending on the variety and the way the wine is maturing, the wine is then bottled with personalised labels or message tags, helped by designers. Each barrel holds 300 bottles of 750 ml each.

Only about 100 decanters of this spirit have been matured so far. While bottled single malts can totally evaporate in 40 to 50 years, this one has survived for 75 under the watch of the Urquhart family, owners of Gordon & MacPhail. Mumbai-based The Vault recently procured the rare whiskey for a buyer of Indian origin and may be able to do so again on special request. The uber-rich could just as easily plan a trip to Scotland to buy the spirit themselves. The whiskey is said to have notes of dried apricots and pomegranate, and hints of spice and creamy vanilla. The finish is smooth and smoky. It comes in a teardrop-shaped decanter with 75 cuts, which denote each year of the spirit's maturation.
