Former cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar has been appointed chairman of the selection committee of the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), while Kapil Dev will be chairman of the board of the National Cricket Academy. This comes in the wake of the cricket board re-constituting some of its high-profile committees and vesting elite former cricketers with key responsibilities. Vengsarkar took over the hot seat from the controversial Kiran More whose four-year term comes to an end, not only as the West Zone nominee but also as the panel's chief.Dev replaces Sunil Gavaskar who however has been retained as chairman of BCCI's technical committee.Former left-arm spinner Venkatpathy Raju is another new entrant in the five-member selection panel as a representative of the South Zone in place of V B Chandrasekhar.The appointments were announced by treasurer N Srinivasan after the 77th AGM in which incumbent Sharad Pawar was formally declared elected unopposed as president for a two-year term.The other three members of the committee, Bhupinder Singh Sr from the North zone, Ranjib Biswal from the East zone and Sanjay Jagdale from the Central zone, have been re-appointed for a two-year term.Sanjeev Sharma, former India paceman, will be the chairman of the National Junior Selection Committee in place of Pravin Amre.
