Rajesh Ranjan (alias Pappu yadav), an RJD MP, slammed the Delhi government’s scheme, claiming that it would only add to corruption. Ranjan said the scheme would benefit CNG companies, and bus and car manufacturers, as demand for vehicles would soar.

But it would not reduce pollution, he said, citing an IIT Kanpur study, which said vehicles contributed to merely five per cent of atmospheric pollution in the national capital.

Earlier, at an all-party meeting, MPs complained to the speaker about the inconvenience caused to them by the odd-even scheme. Many pointed out they had only one car to commute in Delhi.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said she would discuss the matter with her officials to ensure that MPs do not suffer because of the scheme.

The Delhi government reintroduced the odd-even car restriction scheme from April 15 for a fortnight. It was initially introduced in the capital in the first week of January.
