'Budget will empower backward sections'

Sustainable growth can be achieved only if the backward people are empowered to contribute to the growth process, and the Union Budget presented by finance minister P Chidambaram addresses many aspects that would provide long term positive results in this regard, said Subhashis Gangopadhyaya, founder and director of India Development Foundation (IDF).
 
Speaking at a national workshop on 'Budget Analysis 2007 "�2008', organised jointly by DCSMAT's School of Business and Media and India Development Foundation, at the Technopark here, he said the results of the the provisions made in the Budget towards education and healthcare will start showing in various aspects that constrain the development of the backward sections.
 
The session also dealt with various topics such as the government's focus this year, stern measures in the wake of rising inflation and the changing faces of the Indian economy in the new financial year.
 
Appreciating the progressive steps taken by the government, Amir Ullah Khan, fellow at IDF, said the support provided towards e-governance was commendable.
 
He termed it a bold step taken by the government in the Budget.
