What inspired you all to start Boogie Woogie? Ravi Behl: Almost a decade ago, we realised there was no show for dancers to showcase their talent. Naved Jaffrey: We were out of work back then and saw this as an opportunity, being dancers ourselves. We drafted the concept and approached leading broadcasters who were of the opinion that the show would not work. Sony was the only channel that believed it would click. |
How much do you earn from this show? Ravi Behl: We work on a commision basis with Sony wherein we are allotted a fixed budget within which we need to shoot each episode. Initially the per episode budget was around Rs 1.7 lakh. Today it's almost over 65 per cent higher. Naved Jaffrey: The margin we earn is around 25 per cent. |
What has been the key to Boogie Woogie's success? Ravi Behl: Over the last 10 years, we never shifted focus from being a dance talent programme. With time, we introduced innovation in our programming and improvised the asthetics and appeal. For instance, our mothers' special episodes will soon be on air. Naved Jaffrey: What has worked in our favour is the non-celebrity-centric image. We have used celebrities only for certain episodes. |
Why was the show pulled of air for almost 2 years? Naved Jaffrey: It was the broadcaster's decision. |
Was Kaaboom a mistake? Ravi Behl: No it wasn't because we've learnt our lessons from Kaaboom. Naved Jaffrey: Audiences were expecting Kaaboom to be like Boogie Woogie but we came across as non-friendly unlike Boogie Woogie where the three of us cracked jokes and interacted with the audience. |
Going forward what are your plans for Boogie Woogie? Ravi Behl: I believe in the saying 'If it ain't broken don't try to fix it'. We wouldn't want to change anything about the show but certainly we will bring in more innovation with time while sticking to the basics. |
