The condition of B Ramalinga Raju, founder of Satyam Computer Services Limited and an inmate of Chanchalguda Central Prison, is now stable. Raju was admitted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) at Hyderabad on Monday after he complained of chest pain.
However, according to NIMS medical superintendent, N Satyanarayana, Raju needs to be put under observation for medical management for a few days.
Speaking to Business Standard, Satyanarayana said that a series of tests like ECG and angiogram have been administered on Raju this morning in addition to some tests conducted yesterday evening. He is in intensive care unit (ICU) and is able to interact with the doctors.
The police are guarding the ICU. Though the hospital authorities did not confirm the presence of family members at the ICU, it is said the family members including his wife Nandini Raju and his son Teja Raju visited the hospital on Monday night. The test reports are expected in the evening and the same will be conveyed to the Central Prison authorities, who are the custodians of Raju now. ''The doctors attending on Raju advised further management in the intensive care unit,'' the medical superintendent said.
The discharge of Raju from NIMS would be decided based on the medical test reports of the team of doctors attending on him, Satyanarayana said.
This is the second time in about ten days that Raju has been admitted at NIMS. Earlier, doctors have diagnosed him to be suffering from Hepatitis C, an infectious disease affecting the liver and caused by a virus. Hepatitis C is often asymptomatic but is characterised by decreased appetite, fatigue, abdominal pain, jaundice, itching, and flu-like symptoms. Raju was first taken to Osmania General Hospital but was later referred to NIMS last week.
Raju was supposed to be brought back to NIMS some time next week for treatment. "Treatment for hepatitis C is a time consuming process. The treatment can go on for several weeks,'' Satyanarayana said. However, he was admitted on Monday after he complained of chest pain.
It may be recalled that Raju has been in Central Prison since January 9, two days after he made the sensational confession about the financial ill-health of Satyam. His bail petitions have been dismissed by the lower court following the arguments by the CID public prosecutor first and by the CBI counsel later on the grounds that the scam at Satyam involved several crores of rupees and affected many stakeholders and a bail to Raju and his aides would hamper the investigation further.

The CBI, which took over the investigation from the CID, had already filed a preliminary chargesheet before the court and was readying for second chargesheet. The XIV additional chief metropolitan magistrate allowed the CBI to conduct lie detector test (polygraph test) and brain mapping (F300 testing) on Raju and two others. However, Raju's counsels filed a petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court asking it to quash the lower court order. The matter is pending in the High Court now.
Earlier, Raju's counsel S Bharath Kumar, while objecting the CBI's plea for lie detection in April, submitted to the lower court that the Satyam founder was suffering from cardiac related health problems and a polygraph test would subject him to mental stress. The High Court had recently agreed for a special court for speedy trail of Satyam case.
