The Orissa government has urged the Union ministry of new and renewable energy sources (MNRE) for inclusion of eleven solar power projects with an aggregate generation of 64 Mw under the Solar Mission launched by the Centre recently.
Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA), the nodal agency for promotion of renewable energy in the state, has sent the list of these projects and their developers to the ministry for this purpose.
The private developers planning to set up solar power plants in the state are in the process of applying to the NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd (NVVNL), the nodal agency appointed to procure solar power at a tariff fixed by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), for migration to the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, sources said.
Solar Mission targets to add 1300 Mw by 2013 of the total targeted solar power generation of 20,000 Mw by 2022.
Out of 1300 Mw to be generated under Solar Mission, 150 Mw will come from the existing projects while the remaining will be supplemented by the greenfield projects.
The solar power projects selected by the State Level Technical Committee (STC) headed by the secretary in the science and technology department of Orissa government prior to 19 November 2009 are eligible for migration, sources added.

However, the developers will have to apply to the NVVNL along with clear titles of the land (at the rate of 2 hectares per Mw), approval of the state utility for evacuation of power, confirmation of state level distribution company to purchase total power through NVVNL and letter of comfort for funding the project.
The projects which are eligible for migration under the Solar Mission are Alex Solar (5 Mw), Apollo Renewable Energy ( 5 Mw), Photon Solar System (9 Mw), Mahalaxmi Solar (10 Mw), Enzen Global ( 5 Mw), Lanco Solar ( 5 Mw), RSB Energy (5 Mw), Moserbaer’s grid interactive solar photo voltaic project (5 Mw), Sunark Solar (5 Mw), SREI Infrastructure (5 Mw) and Sahara India (5 Mw).
“We have already held one round of discussion with the state owned Gridco on evacuation of power and consent to buy the entire power to be generated from these solar projects. We are hopeful that some of these projects will be adopted by NVVNL for migration under Solar Mission”, a senior official of the science and technology department told Business Standard.
