BioAia 2005, the three-day global bio business forum, concluded on Saturday with the signing of 16 memorandum of understandings (MoUs) and 11 pre-MoUs between various national and international biotech and pharma companies. |
The forum had witnessed participation from 40 foreign delegates from countries like Iran, Pakistan, Germany and the US, apart from 30 Indian companies and organisations. Around 70 one-to-one meetings led to the signing of 27 agreements, compared to 21 last year. |

While two memorandum of understandings were signed between the National Research Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Tehran, and Sudershan Biotech Limited and Genotex International (India) Private Limited, five MoUs were signed between Medipak Limited and Indian companies like Sudershan Biotech Limited, Natco Pharma Limited, All India Biotech Association (AIBA), Bharat Biotech International Limited, Otira Pharmaceuticals Limited and Indian Immunologicals Limited. |

AIBA has also signed MoUs with the Sri Lanka National Science Foundation and Indo Israel Chambers of Commerce and Industry. B S Bajaj, chairman of the AIBA (southern chapter), said that the MoUs were signed to facilitate strategic alliances, collaborations in technology transfers, clinical trials, outsourcing of products, contract research and research collaborations in the areas of biotechnology. |

Saudi-based Batterjee Holding Company has signed two agreements with Transgene Biotek Limited and Vega Medicare for technology transfer and marketing of diagnostic products in Saudi Arabia. |

The pre memorandum of understandings were signed between Indian companies and companies based out of Germany, the US, Italy, Pakistan and Iran. At the valedictory ceremony of BioAsia 2005, the Genome Valley Excellence Award was given to William Haseltine, president, Haseltine Associates. |

The next year's event would be held from February 9 to 11 and the participants hoped that it would have more industry participation and less of government and bureaucracy. |
