A'bad to witness 52.34% rise in hotel room inventory by '17

While currently Ahmedabad has about 3,439 hotel rooms across budget, midscale, upscale, upper upscale and luxury segments

By 2017, the commercial capital of Gujarat, Ahmedabad will see a rise of 52.34 per cent in hotel room inventory, says the latest report on the hospitality sector by Cushman & Wakefield (C&W), a leading global real estate consultancy firm.

While currently Ahmedabad has about 3,439 hotel rooms across budget, midscale, upscale, upper upscale and luxury segments, the city will see an addition of another 1,800 rooms between the period of 2013 and 2017.

"Ahmedabad has about 3,439 rooms/keys in the organised segment as of 2013. Almost four new hotels opened for business in 2013, adding a total of 512 keys to the existing room supply, namely Tune Hotels (100 keys), Aloft (176 keys), Easy Eastin Citizen (52 keys) & Novotel (184 keys). Moreover, Crowne Plaza with 200 keys was also expected to start operations in 2013 but is currently on hold. Ahmedabad is expected to have addition of over 1,800 keys over the next 5 years," the report stated.

Of the total supply to hotel rooms in Ahmedabad, 39 per cent belongs to upper upscale, 25 per cent to midscale, 14 per cent to luxury, 11 per cent each budget and upscale segments.

Moreover, in 2014, the city is likely to see an upward movement in demand for hotel rooms as well. "Ahmedabad is a growing city with the potential to sustain much higher performance metrics. It is likely to see an upward movement in demand in 2014, given the upcoming inventory of office stock in the city and being an emerging city along with the development as a twin city, with Gandhinagar in the neighbourhood," the report further stated.
