Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated incentive scheme for airlines to enhance cargo growth at Chennai airport. The scheme would reduce operating cost of airlines when they operate cargo freighter aircraft, according to AAI's statement.

"The scheme would go a long way in boosting the growth of cargo volumes at Chennai airport and also reduce the cost of operating cargo freighters," it was further stated.

Under the scheme, for 1-5 cargo freighters in a month no concession on applicable landing charges on freighters was proposed, for 6-10 cargo freighters in a month AAI proposed 10% (from 1 to 10) and for 11-15 cargo freighters in a month (10% from 1 to 10, 20% from 11 to 15), and for 16 and above cargo freighters, percentage concession on applicable landing charges on freighters was 10% from 1 to 10 landing charges on freighters would be around 20% from 11 to 15 and 30% from 16 and above.
