ACC's consolidated net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 registered a marginal fall as its units faced despatch constraints due to the absence of railway wagons. Not surprisingly, the sales volume also saw a fall of more than two per cent.

According to a stock exchange filing, the consoidated net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2010, was pegged at 392.88 crore, down 1.6 per cent compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

The cement sales volume also dipped 2.6 per cent to 5.58 million tonnes, compared to 5.73 million tonnes registered in the three months ended March 31, 2009. The sales turnover, however, rose 3.5 per cent to to 2240.38 crore in the quarter ended March 31, 2010.

"During the quarter, several of our cement units faced despatch constraints due to non-availability of railway wagons, as a result of which our sales volume were near flat. But we were able to register some increase in sales turnover, driven by price improvements in a few regions," explained a company release.
