Adani Power has been shortlisted to develop four overseas projects worth nearly Rs 19,000 crore and having a total capacity of 3,792 MW.

The company, a part of conglomerate Adani group, has been shortlisted for developing power projects in Kosovo, South Africa and Nigeria, sources said.

According to them, the four overseas projects entail an investment of Rs 19,000 crore. They have a total capacity of 3,792 MW.

In Kosovo, the company has bid to develop new Kosovo e Re Power Plant, a 600 MW project that can be increased to 1,200 MW.

Adani Power is also in the race for developing a 600 MW plant in South Africa, besides two other projects in Nigeria, having a total capacity of 1,992 MW, sources said.

The company spokesperson could not be reached for comments.

A leading thermal power producer, Adani Power has an installed capacity of 3,330 MW at present.

Noting that all projects would be awarded this year itself, sources said Adani Power is expected to get at least two of these projects.

Separately, Adani Power would be refurbishing a 678 MW (Kosovo B) and MDO of Sibovc South Mine in Kosovo.

Kosovo Energy Corp JSC, promoted by the Government of Kosovo, has initiated consolidation process in the power sector.

Lignite from existing Sibovc South Lignite Field is about 330 million tonnes and the reserve in proposed Sibovc South is approximately 330 million tonnes for supply to Kosova A (till 2017), Kosova B (until 2030) and Kosovo e Re Power Plant, sources said.

Sources said in South Africa, Adani Power is looking to develop a 600 MW coal-fired dry cooled Circulating Fluidised Bed-based technology power project along with mining group Exxaro. The project is based on captive coal mine.

"Adani Power participated and qualified for acquisition of two gas based power projects in Nigeria. They are Ughelli Power Plc that has a total installed capacity of 972 MW and Sapele Power with an installed capacity of 1,020 MW," a source said.

The winning bidder for the two projects in Nigeria has to upgrade the stations. The final bid submission is expected to happen next month, they added.

As part of unbundling utilities in the power sector, Nigerian government has made six generating companies (four gas and two hydro power projects), among others.

Adani Power is expected to reach 20,000 MW by 2020.
