Surat-based Adinath Tex Fab has started a 100 per cent cotton processing unit, first of its type in the city, on Monday.

Gyanendra Jain, proprietor, Adinath Tex Fab, said, "Surat has earned worldwide recognition in the textile field. However, this is only in the polyester sector as the cotton sector is literally non-existent in the city. The cotton sector is growing at a very fast pace the world over, but Surat has lagged behind, mainly on account of lack of proper processing facility."

"There are more than 400 processing units in Surat, but Adinath Tex Fab is the first 100 per cent cotton processing unit.

"Now, the cotton textile exporters of Surat will not have to run to Ahmedabad or Mumbai for getting the goods processed, as the facility is available in here itself," Jain said.

"The new processing facility, would give an impetus to develop cotton-based textile industry in Surat and help it make a complete textile centre," he said, adding that the processing unit has a monthly manufacturing capacity of 50 tonne terry towel and 2.50 lakh metre fabric.

It is worth mentioning here that Adinath group came into existence in 1990-91. Initially, the group's business operations were limited only to trading in chemicals, but very soon it started manufacturing chemicals and textile auxiliaries. The firm also started trading in industrial fabrics.

Anticipating the demand in textile sector, the group started manufacturing 100 per cent cotton fabrics and 100 per cent cotton terry towels. Today, the group's products include bath linen, bed linen, uniform, medical clothing and the like.

It is also involved in supplying liquid soaps, phenol and a number of ancillary items, which are supplied in several states through a chain of 35 distributors.
