Adobe net income drops 19%, sales up in Q1

Software maker Adobe Systems has reported a 19 per cent drop in its net income at $127.2 million for the first quarter of this fiscal, while sales climbed in the same period.

The company's revenue rose to $858.7 million for the three-month period ending March 5, 2010, from $786.4 million in the same quarter last fiscal.

"Stability in our creative business, combined with strength in our Acrobat and Omniture solutions, helped drive strong financial performance in Q1," Adobe President and Chief Executive Officer Shantanu Narayen said in a statement.

Adobe has performed well in the first quarter of 2010. However, the company's net income declined to $127.2 million in the first quarter of 2010 from $156.4 million in the year-ago period. While in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year, it had reported a net loss of $32 million.

Moreover, the company said it is expecting a revenue in the range of $875 million to $925 million in the second quarter of this financial year.

During the first quarter, the bulk of Adobe's revenue from product sales went up by 7.7 per cent to $799.44 million, while revenue from service and support grew 34 per cent to $59.25 million.
