Agent Jadoo, an anti-piracy software-launched by Kochi-based start-up Jadootech Solutions is planning to enter into Bollywood and Kollywood soon. The company is in talks with production companies and directors in the Hindi and Tamil film industry.
Using the software, the anti-corruption cell of Kerala Police recently had filed case against around 1,000 people for illegally uploading and watching a newly released Malayalam movie.
"With the increase in internet penetration and number of internet users in the country, there are lots of pirated film content which are available in various websites. We know that piracy cannot be eradicated. Our aim is to contain piracy with the help of this software,” said Prakash Bare, founding member of Jadootech Solutions who is also a film actor.
"Newly released films are made available online by certain websites at the same time when they are released in theatres. We initially started working with the Malayalam film industry. However this software could be useful for other film industries as well. We are in discussions with directors like Priyadarshan and other major film production companies in Tamil and Hindi industry,” he added.
According to Bare the value of intellectual property right (IPR) being stolen globally is around $18-20 billion annually of which movies account for about 60 per cent.
Agent Jadoo uses an automated feature that do scanning of all social media sites, torrents, streaming sites, file sharing cyber lockers for illegal contents based on tags. The software can also read and identify the IP address from where the content is uploaded.
"We partner with content providers. If any content is violated on the web, our software tracks it and then we provide that information to the content providers who can take legal action,” added Bare. Hindi films are the most widely available domestic Indian content with majority of downloaders based in Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai.
