After mastering the low-cost model for airlines, Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of AirAsia, is set to get into low-cost hotels and, later, hospitals in India.

Fernandes, a partner in Tune Hotels Regional Services Sdn Bhd, which operates the Tune Hotels.com chain, said he would open 20 Tune Hotels in India.

He said, “The company has already started construction on the 20 hotels and is investing around Rs 9 crore. The first hotel in India is expected to come up by next year. At Tune Hotels.com, our philosophy is to provide a five-star sleeping experience at a one-star price, by getting rid of costly extras that at times customers don’t need.”

The cities in which there will be hotels include Mumbai and Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore.
