Airlines offer cheaper fares for post-festive season

October-December quarter is peak for airlines due to a spate of festivals, followed by April-June when schools close for summer breaks

Airlines have already started playing Santa Claus. To boost their forward bookings in the post-festival season, airlines are offering cheap fares.

The October-December quarter, which coincides with the festive season starting with Durga Puja and ending with the Christmas-New Year break, is considered to be the peak season for airlines, followed by April-June when schools close for summer breaks. Budget carrier AirAsia India has announced a year-end sale, offering tickets from Rs 899, all-inclusive. According to AirAsia India, the offer ends on October 16 and is applicable on travel between October 4, 2016, and April 27, 2017. The Rs 899 offer is applicable on the Guwahati-Imphal route, while Bengaluru-Kochi tickets are priced from Rs 999.

As part of this offer, Bengaluru-Goa prices start from Rs 1,199, Bengaluru-Chandigarh Rs 3,399, Goa-Hyderabad Rs 1,799, Jaipur-Pune Rs 2,399 and Delhi-Bengaluru Rs 2,699, among others. From October 8, AirAsia India will start flying on the Kochi-Hyderabad route.

Tickets on this route are priced from Rs 2,699.

SpiceJet on Tuesday announced its special festival sale of all-inclusive one-way tickets starting at Rs 888 for the domestic sector and Rs 3,699 for the international sector in direct flights. Tickets for popular routes such as Bengaluru-Kochi, Delhi-Dehradun, Chennai-Bengaluru are priced at Rs 888 (all-inclusive, one-way). In the international sector, the offer covers the Chennai-Colombo route at Rs 3,699 (all-inclusive; one-way).

Full-service carrier Jet Airways, too, has joined the race, announcing an offer on economy fares for passengers travelling on the airline’s domestic network on some sectors within India starting from base fares of Rs 396.

The four-day offer is effective from October 4 to 7 and valid for travel from November 8 on the airlines’ domestic networks.
