This announcement follows Vodafone's deal with Apple to sell the iPhone in ten of its markets around the globe, including India. The phones are expected to hit the Indian markets by the end of this year.

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) and its affiliates Bharti Airtel, Globe Telecom and Optus are poised to provide the iPhone to Singapore, India, the Philippines and Australia later this year.

SingTel holds a 30.5 per cent stake in India's Bharti and 44.5 per cent in the Phillipines' Globe. SingTel also owns Australian telecommunications operator Optus.

Meanwhile later this year, Vodafone customers in Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey will be able to purchase the iPhone for use on the Vodafone network.
