Alcon India, healthcare solutions provider Alcon Inc's Indian arm, is eyeing over 40 per cent growth in its revenue, to $60 million, from its countrywide operations this year.
Disclosing this to PTI today, the Switzerland-based company's president and CEO Kevin J Buehler said that it had earned a revenue of $42.5 million from its India operations last year. Alcon India deals with the sales and marketing of a wide range of optical surgical equipments.
Stating that there are opportunities galore in India's eye-care sector, he said that as many as 500 million people in the country are currently in the process of undergoing cataract surgery. The firm plans to capture at least 20 per cent of this segment through its Phacoemulcification Cataract Surgery procedure in the next 10 years, he added.
Another area that the company is heavily betting on is the timely detection of glaucoma, which can prevent eyesight loss, he said.
"Hopefully we will be able to introduce the procedure for glaucoma diagnosis before the end of this year, after we test-market it specifically for India," he said.
To buttress its India operations, Alcon India is also planning to hike its head count from 140 to 450 by this year- end.
