Ahmedabad-based Alfa Group of Companies plans to enter into a joint venture with a Chinese company for the production of uPVC (Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride) window/door frames in Gujarat.

The company, which is into diversified activities from boilers to pest control and from electrodes to real estate, is expecting an investment of roughly Rs 10 crore for the project.

The Chinese company, Jinan Oberon Technical Co Ltd, is into manufacturing machines producing uPVC window/door frames as well as the frames itself.

According to owner of Alfa Group, Milind Shah, the company is yet to finalise the prices of the frames or the machines to be sold in Gujarat.

"We have to initially look into the feasibility factors of setting up plant for these machines and eventually frames. In addition to the land cost, we expect to invest around Rs 10 crore in the project. However, we are yet to finalise the details of the joint venture," said Shah.

Shah added that if everything went right, the company would be the first one to offer the uPVC window/frames, which are very popular in countries like USA, Japan, UK and even in Indian metros like Mumbai and Delhi.

"Traditionally, we have been using composite panel frames, aluminium frames or wooden frames. But the uPVC frames are more sturdy, robust and weather-proof, apart from being sound proof too," said Shah.

The company has already received an order from a Surat-based private builder for his upcoming mall there named Crossway. Shah expects the frames to be 70-80 per cent higher priced than the conventional frames since its a highly unexplored business in the region.

Alfa Group of Companies began its operations initially in insulation in the late 1950s. It later moved on to diversify into other activities including real estate. The company presently has two godowns and one residential project under its real-estate wing.

The company is also the sole distributor of UK-based Stanvac's titanium and gold electrodes for companies in the Hazira belt, stated Shah.

In the Rs 800-900 crore market for electrodes in the state, Alfa Group's market share is around Rs 50-60 crore, Shah added.
