Japan's largest airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) has launched non-stop daily flights between Delhi and Tokyo.

The new flight operation started from the beginning of this winter schedule, which commenced from October 28.

ANA had been operating flights between Mumbai and Tokyo since 2007.

"The first daily flight (NH917) left Tokyo on October 28 with all seats occupied. The increase in flights on the new route would expand ANA's network between India and Japan," the airline said in a statement.

It would also provide connectivity to the passengers on the airline's route network in North America via Tokyo, which currently include New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The airline would expand to San Jose in January next year.

"2012 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and India. It is also the 60th anniversary of ANA. In such a commemorative year, we are very pleased to have launched our second route in India in the capital of Delhi," Senior Vice-President of All Nippon Airways, Takashi Shiki said.

He said ANA plans to increase its international network 22% by 2013 over 2011.

"We believe that increasing flights to and from India is a significant step forward in achieving ANA's goal of becoming 'Asia's number one airline group," he added.

Marcel Hungerbuehler, COO of Delhi International Airport Limited, said, "We welcome ANA to Delhi International Airport and look forward to a mutually successful relationship."
