Alstom bags Rs 842 cr order from GVK

contract to equip the 850 MW Ratle hydropower plant that is under development by the company

French equipment maker Alstom today said that it won Euro 100 million (Rs 842 crore ) order from Hyderabad-based power company, GVK. 
 
The contract which was in the second quarter, will equip the 850 megawatt Ratle hydropower plant which is under development by the company. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2017 
 
The contract includes the supply of four turbines of 205 MW each, and a turbine of 30 MW. These turbine order will be supplied from the company's Vadodara manufacturing facility.

“This contract is a testimony to the quality of the long standing relationship built over the last 15 years by Alstom and GVK,” said Patrick Ledermann, managing director and vice-chairman, Alstom India. 
 
Ratle hydro power project is located on the the Chenab River, in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir. It is currently the largest power project being set up in the state. 
 
The run-of-the river power project was the first project which was awarded via tariff based bidding. It was also developed on a build, own, operate and transfer basis for a period of 35 years.
 
Apart from Ratle, GVK is also developing two more hydro power projects. One of them is 330 megawatt Shrinagar power project in Uttarakhand. The infrastructure company is also developing yet another hydro power in Uttarakhand, which will sell the power it generates on a merchant basis, ie to private buyers with a long term power purchase agreement. This power project will have a total capacity of 346 megawatts.
