India's leading online marketplace Amazon.in has announced the launch of a first-of its-kind women only delivery station in India. This initiative has been kick-started with its first delivery station in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and the second in Chennai.

This is aimed at empowering women and transforming their lives, said the e-commerce major.

These dedicated Amazon India women delivery stations will through their service partners be completely managed and run by women. Women at both these stations will deliver packages on two-wheelers, covering a radius of 2-3 kms from the delivery station.

There are plans to offer self-defence classes to them for their safety alongside a dedicated helpline number created for these associates to dial in for any support or help needed during the day, said the company.

Samuel Thomas, Director, Transportation, Amazon India commented that women only delivery station is a first-of-its-kind India-specific innovation from Amazon and look forward to help women across communities attain financial independence in life.
