Amway aims at Rs 2,500 cr turnover from India by 2012

Direct selling company Amway today said it is eyeing to almost double its turnover to Rs 2,500 crore from the country by 2012 and is planning to increase business from Gujarat.

"By 2012, we hope to post a turnover of Rs 2,500 crore from Rs 1,407 crore at present and have chalked out an action plan to achieve the target and also planning on increasing the business from Gujarat, which stands at Rs 53 crore at present," Amway Managing Director and CEO William S Pinckney said here today.

TV advertisement campaigns have enhanced the value of brand Amway on a national scale, Pinckney added.

Talking to reporters here today, he said, "Amway's focus in the past 2-3 years to improve consumer access and awareness had paid off. We have grown from Rs 799 crore to Rs 1,407 crore over the past three years as the quality of pick-up centres has undergone a sea change and is more experiential for consumers."

Amway India Enterprise Pvt Ltd is a subsidiary of the USD 8.4-billion Amway Corporation, Michigan, USA-- one of the largest direct selling companies in the world.

It has 130 offices across India and covers over 4,000 cities and towns through its home delivery network. Amway does not have its own production facility in the country.

Amway India offers 15 products in five categories of personal care, home care, nutrition & wellness, cosmetics and gift catalogue.

Meanwhile, Rajat Banerji Senior Manager, Corporate Communications and Social responsibility requested the Union government to bring in a bill on  'Direct Selling Legislation' in the Parliament for regularising the business of Rs 5,000 crore done through direct selling of various companies' products to the consumers in the country.

Banerji said, "such a legislation will prevent fake companies entering the market and duping the consumers." He pointed out that USA, Singapore, Malasiya and other countries have such legislation and its introduction in india is need of the hour, he said.

He said that Indian Direct Selling Association has also supported the demand which has been pending before the government for the past 10 years.
