Amway posts Rs 33-cr business in state

Direct selling FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) major Amway India Enterprises Ltd clocked a turnover of Rs 33 crore in the Orissa market in 2009, recording a 34 per cent growth over the previous year.

Amway's pan-India business reached Rs 1407 crore in 2009 which marks a 25 per cent growth over Rs 1128 crore which the company had achieved in 2008. The company has set a turnover target of Rs 2500 crore by the end of 2012.

A K Mishra, area manager (Orissa) of Amway India Enterprises said, “We recorded a total business of Rs 33 crore in Orissa in 2009 which is a growth of 34 per cent over the previous year. In 2009, the company conducted 750 training sessions for its distributors.”

Amway paid taxes to the Orissa government to the tune of Rs 4.96 crore in 2009. The company which has four offices and two warehouses in Orissa at present intends to open two more warehouses in south and western Orissa as well as one more office in western Orissa by July this year.

In 2010. Amway will focus on four key strategic pillars- business excellence, consumer experience, distributor experience, products and brands.

Diptarag Bhattacharjee, vice-president (east), Amway Enterprises said, “This year we are going to scale up our advertising budget to Rs 25 crore compared to Rs 18 crore that we spent last year. Today we can say that Amway's products have earned the applause of the classes as well as the masses but there is a huge market in the semi-urban and rural areas which needs to be tapped.”

Last year, Amway invested Rs 55 crore in trebling production at its contract manufacturing facility at Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).

Amway India which has around 120 products in its basket currently is also recording growth in online sales. In 2009, the company posted sales worth Rs 150 crore from online sales.

Asked on the launching of new products, Bhattacharjee said, “We have already rolled out the New Attitude Skincare range and the Mango flavour of the Nutrilite kids drink in 2010. Amway has more than 400 products worldwide and on an average, the company launches 7-10 products every year in the country.”

Amway on Tuesday launched new products in the city under its flagship Nutrilite brand which accounts for nearly 50 per cent of the company's turnover in the India market.

Amway has over 130 offices and 55 city warehouses across the country covering over 4000 cities and towns through its distribution and home delivery network. Around 85 per cent of the products sold by Amway India are manufactured within the country through third party contract manufacturers.
