The investment was made through Reliance Technology Ventures (RTVL), the corporate venture capital arm of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) and a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Capital.  However, the amount of investment could not be ascertained. WiMax, or Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a telecommunications technology providing wireless data over long distances through various modes.  According to analysts, RCom is looking at offering 4G services in the country, bypassing 3G WiMax, like telecom giant Sprint Communications has done in the US. At present, Wimax is being provided over the 2G platform.  A stake in Sequans will help it access latest technologies and a faster rollout of the technology.  Sequans Communications is a semi-conductor manufacturer and provides system-on-chip solutions for both fixed and mobile WiMax services. The company also offers chip technologies for network components like femtocells (small cellular base stations), base stations, subscriber terminals and home gateways, among others.  It also holds the patent for MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output communications), a mobile WiMax technology, and has tie-ups with equipment manufacturers like Taiwan
