The drama at the Rs 13,735-crore Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), maker and owner of Amul, seems far from over. The board on Wednesday again headed for a showdown with the Mehsana District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, also Dudhsagar Dairy.

The Union, headed by Vipul Chaudhary, also chairman of GCMMF, on Wednesday approached the Gujarat high court for a stay order on a board meeting convened on Wednesday to discuss development-related issues.

Judge N V Anjaria granted a stay and has listed the petition, with the earlier petition by Chaudhary demanding a stay on a meeting seeking a no-confidence motion against him, for further hearing on November 11.

Mehsana Union's lawyer P S Champaneri said that the GCMMF managing director had called for the meeting on November 6, which is not permitted under the federation's bye-laws. He argued before the court that GCMMF MD was not authorised to call meeting of the board of directors. Only the chairman of the board can request a board meeting, he further argued. After hearing Champaneri, the court stayed the meeting till further hearing on November 11.
