Lifetime Wellness Rx International Limited, an Apollo Hospitals group company, and Special Olympics Inc (SOI), an organisation founded by Eunice Shriver (sister of late US president John F Kennedy) signed a memorandum of cooperation to improve the health and well-being of those with intellectual disabilities in India.

As a part of the understanding, Lifetime Wellness will undertake health and wellness evaluation of intellectually disabled athletes registered with Special Olympics Bharat, which is accredited to SOI, Apollo Hospitals executive director, Shobana Kamineni, told mediapersons here on Thursday.

She said that Lifetime Wellness would involve specialists from Apollo Hospitals to conduct about 100,000 health check ups for mentally challenged children across India under standardised clinical protocols conforming to SOI norms.

SOI has been established to promote the development of sports programmes for the intellectually disabled. It is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and operates in over 150 countries.
