Apollo inks MoU with Maldives to renovate hospital

Apollo Hospitals has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maldives government to mange the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) at Maldives.

The hospital would be renovated with an investment of around $25 million (Rs 115 crore).

The agreement was signed by Preetha Reddy, managing director, Apollo Hospitals, and Maldives government representatives in the presence of latter's President Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking to reporters here, Reddy said the hospital would be developed through public private partnership. “The Indian government will also help modernise the hospital.”

According to Reddy, IGMH was donated by the Indian government to Maldives in the late 80s.

The hospital's infrastructure would be assessed in the next three months after which specialty units such as cardiac, orthopaedic and trauma care would be set up over the next 18 months. Apollo would manage the hospital for 15 years, Reddy said.
