Hyderabad-headquartered Medvarsity Online Limited, an initiative by the Apollo Hospitals Group, is charting plans to expand its presence in India and abroad,
The company, which Apollo claims to be the country’s first medical e-learning venture, is planning to expand its presence mainly to Tier-II, Tier-III and Tier-IV cities, besides taking the number of its sales offices to 30 from the existing 14 across 8 cities, within a year.
Also on the cards are plans to foray into the international markets, including Africa, Bangladesh and South West Asia, where Apollo Hospitals has a wider presence, which Medvarsity intends to benefit from.
“The e-learning space is gaining significant momentum in India with the wide penetration of broadband connectivity. This opens up a huge opportunity for us,” Sanjiv Zutshi, chief executive officer, Medvarsity, told Business Standard.
Medvarsity, which was initiated in 2000, provides training for medical professionals, including doctors and non-doctors, who want to go for alternative education to complement their current education.
It offers courses across various disciplines, including PG diploma in hospital administration, diploma in family medicine, emergency medicine and fellowship in intensive care medicine and clinical research.

“Medvarsity has been seeing a double-digit growth since inception. We grew 70 per cent last year and expect to grow at the same rate in the coming years,” Zutshi said, adding that the company was targeting to achieve a sales turnover of Rs 100 crore by 2015.
Medvarsity operates across three verticals - business to consumer (B-2-C), business-to-business (B-2-B) and direct-selling team (DST), its low-cost vertical. It garners more than 90 per cent of its revenues from the B-2-C segment.
The company is also planning to launch a mobile platform, wherein the content will be available on phones. “We are currently under discussion with mobile technology developers for this service. It is expected to be in the market in the next three months,” he said.
Medvarsity has tied up with British Medical Journal, NIIT and India Can to create digitised medical content. So far, it has trained 25,000 individuals.
