Apollo Tyres has today informed the stock exchanges that the management has declared a lock-out at the company's manufacturing facility at Perambra in Kerala. The lock-out came into effect today, on account of labour unrest relating to long term settlement negotiations.
The company had earlier, on April 29, 2010, announced that the workers at company's manufacturing plant at Perambra have resorted to go slow resulting in considerable drop in the production. The company had then claimed this going slow with work as as pressure tactics that workers have resorted to, for bargaining a long-term settlement. It had then said that the other units of the company, both in India and abroad, were operating in full capacity.
