ArcelorMittal spent $ 522 mn for CSR measures

The steel maker led by India-origin billionaire Lakshmi Mittal had invested $ 214 million for research and development activities related to environment including products for the renewable energy market.     

These information are part of the company's inaugural corporate responsibility report 'Taking Responsibility for Transforming Tomorrow' for the year 2007.     

Last year, ArcelorMittal spent 216 million dollars for safety measures at workplace and $ 306 million as part of environmental initiatives, a statement said.     

Further, the company has increased the use of high strength steels for construction and automotive sectors which helps in cutting down on carbondioxide emissions.

The firm had also completed socio-economic studies for its greenfield projects in the country, the statement added.     

"The process of annual reporting will help provide greater transparency and accountability to our key stakeholders, including our employees, customers, investors and more broadly the communities in which we operate," the Member of ArcelorMittals Group Management Board, in-charge of Corporate Responsibility, Gonzalo Urquijo said in a statement.
