The agreement on the 10,000-Mw nuclear power project at Maharashtra by Nuclear Power Corporation India (NPCIL) in technical collaboration with French power equipment-maker Areva will be finalised by December.

"The discussion on the contract will finalise the general characteristics of the contract in the next few weeks or the end of this year," French Ambassador Jerome Bonnafont said here today on the sidelines of a CII interactive session today.

He was hopeful about project despite debate on Civil Nuclear Liability Bill and said, "Discussion with government is on."

Areva will supply two European pressurised reactors (EPRs) of 1,650 Mw of a total six in the next few years.

Bonnafont said discussions with Alstom for tie-up with BHEL and NPCIL was in progress.

Meanwhile, he said visas will be issued from Kolkata by end of the year or early next year.
