In spite of Arrow, the premium menswear brand, being acquired by Phillips-Van Heusen Corporation (PVH) internationally, the brand will remain with Sanjay Labhai's Arvind Mills in India. In India the Van Heusen brand is owned by A V Birla Group's Indian Rayon and Sanjay Lalbhai's Arvind Mills is the licensee for the Arrow brand. In the third week of November this year, PVH, the largest shirtmaker in the US, bought over the Arrow brand and all the related licensing business from the Cluett American Group in a $70 million deal."There would be no conflict of interest in the Indian market. We have been paying royalty to Cluett American for the Arrow brand, and now will have to pay PVH. It's just like the a tenant having a new landlord when the ownership of the house changes," said Darshan Mehta, president, Arvind Brands.Interestingly, the complex ownership history of the Van Heusen brands both in India and internationally has also ensured that there is no conflict between the brands in India.
