The Army Service Corps Centre (North) will be relocated from Gaya to Bangalore to minimise the pau-city of officers the Army is facing, Chief of Army Staff, General V K Singh, said here today.

“It is part of our relocation plan to strengthen the ASC. It will have concurrent economic benefits as wherever the army goes, concurrent economic benefits will be there,” he said. With this relocation, the strength of the ASC centre (both South and North) will be ramped up by 40 per cent to 5,000 officers who would be trained here.

“We will be putting up an officers' training academy there (Gaya)", he told reporters here after presenting certificates to ex-armymen who completed training by Caliidie Motors Works. The certificates would provide a second career option to retired army personnel to enable them to work with industry, he said.

The course, being sponsored by Callidie Motor Works (a part of Sundaram Motors) in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University and the Army, "is a way of motivating the ex-servicemen so that they can take forward the skill for which they have a flair and show the industry the kind of expertise, integrity and honesty they have", he said.

Such ex-servicemen will then become 'brand ambassadors' for the Army to motivate the industry to recruit them.
