Ashapura Minechem Ltd, a large producer and exporter of industrial minerals, has posted a 681 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 5.47 crore in the quarter ending December 2004 against Rs 0.70 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
 
Sales for the quarter rose to Rs 164.91 crore against Rs 26.94 crore. For the nine months, the company reported a net profit of Rs 10.98 crore against Rs 4.73 crore.
 
Amara Raja turns around
 
Amara Raja Batteries Ltd, manufacturers of automotive batteries, has reported a net profit of Rs 1.42 crore for the quarter ending December 31, 2004 compared with a loss of Rs 1.81 crore for the same period last year.
 
The company's total turnover rose 53.26 per cent to Rs 61.36 crore for the third quarter in 2004-05 compared with Rs 40. 03 crore for the corresponding period the previous year.
 
The cost of raw materials increased by 81.28 per cent to Rs 40.31crore for the third quarter in 2004-05 from Rs 22.23 crore for the same period last year. Profit before tax (before deferred revenue expenditure) stood at Rs 2.51 crore during the quarter, the company said.
 
Alstom Projects net dips 85%
 
Alstom Projects India, a power transmission company, reported a 85.15 per cent dip in net profit at Rs 6.8 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2004 compared with Rs 45.9 crore in the year-ago period.
 
Total income, however, increased 17.74 per cent to Rs 191.1 crore for the third quarter of the current fiscal against Rs 162.3 crore in the same quarter last year, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
 
Aarti Industries net up 37%
 
Aarti Industries, manufacturer of chemicals, has achieved a 41 per cent rise in turnover at Rs 183 crore during the quarter ended December 2004.
 
Its net profit moved up by 37 per cent to Rs 15 crore. Encouraged by the quarterly performance, the board has proposed a bonus shares at the ratio of two shares for every share held.
