Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of Hinduja group, has targeted to increase its vehicle sales to 68,000 units in the current fiscal as against 47,000 units last year, and thus enhance its market share in the country to 38 per cent from the existing 30 per cent.

Company's special director (vehicle sales) B Khaitan said that the sale of vehicles would rise as the demand for truckers, tippers and multi-axle vehicles was expected to grow this year. Besides, the reach of Ashok Leyland in the country has increased in the last two years.

Ashok Leyland launched its 'H' series engine-powered, multi-axle vehicle in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. The series consists of four and six-cylinder engines with turbo-charged and turbo-intercooled variants that are claimed to be highly fuel-efficient.

Khaitan said that the new vehicle was expected to be the most-sought-after model in the country for haulage of cement and agricultural produce. Hence, the company was expecting to sell nearly 20,000 new model vehicles in the first year of its launch, he said.

Rajiv Sanghvi, executive director of Automotive Manufacturers, the exclusive dealers of Ashok Leyland in Andhra Pradesh, said that he delivered 250 new model vehicles on the launch day.

"This is the highest number of vehicles ever delivered in the country on a launch day in the commercial vehicle segment," he added.
