Asian Heart Institute eyes buyout in Gujarat

Mumbai-based Asian Heart Institute (AHI), a cardiac specialty hospital set up by Contemporary Healthcare Pvt Ltd, is scouting for acquisition of a hospital in Ahmedabad under its plans to enter Gujarat's capital by December 2007.
 
Talking to Business Standard, Ramakanta Panda, vice-chairman and consultant cardio-thoracic surgeon of AHI, said, "We have plans to acquire a hospital in Ahmedabad".
 
When asked about the reason to enter the Ahmedabad medical market, he said, "There are lots of growth opportunities in this part of the state."
 
'We are looking for a hospital with a bed capacity of 100-200. It would be a super specialty hospital to provide medical treatment to major diseases, including cardiac problems.
 
On the kind of investment it would make for acquiring a hospital, he refused to comment saying that the process was at a preliminary stage.
 
On whether the company was in talks with any of the hospitals in Ahmedabad, he said that there were enough number of good hospitals for acquisition, but he would not like to disclose anything at this point.
 
AHI has a world-class cardiac care facility in Mumbai, providing cardiac care to patients at reasonable cost, he claimed. The hospital is a dream project of six leading cardiac specialists of Mumbai.
