Adhunik Thermal and Power Limited (ATPL), a unit of Adhunik Group in the power and steel sectors, wil invest Rs 4500 crore to set up a 1,000 Mw power plant at Kandra in Saraikela-Kharswan district of Jharkhand.
The 1,000 MW thermal power plant will come up in two phases and the company has already placed order for 2x135 Mw unit to be set up in the company premises, Manoj Agarwal, managing director of Adhunik group, told a group of visiting journalists from Jamshedpur last night.
Agarwal said the company has been alloted coal mines jointly with Tata steel and the environmental clearances and land acquisition process are in progress.
Describing about the expansion plan of the group, he said Adhunik Alloys and Power Limited (AAPL) will also add two waste heat recovery boilers to generte 30 Mw (2x15 Mw) power out of waste gases, which will save around 11,000 tonnes of coal per month.
It will not only help in keeping pollution at zero level but also add to the low cost steel production, he said adding that AAPL would also add two kilns of 350 tonne per day each by next May, which will double their steel making capacity from two lakhs ton per annum to four lakh ton per annum.
Agarwal said the 2x15 Mw power project was under construction at Kandra and likely to be synchronised by end of March next year. The automation plant will be state-of-art and a zero pollution unit, he said.

Further, AAPL will be adding 2x20 tonne induction furnace alongwith billet caster and Ladder Redefining Furnace (LRF) for quality steel making capacity.
The induction furnace was scheduled to be completed by February next, he said but did not reveal the investment to be made for these projects.
