German luxury car maker Audi on Thursday launched the new generation A4 sedan priced at Rs 38.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi and Maharashtra). The vehicle, launched only in petrol variant as of now, promises a fuel efficiency of 18 km per litre. The top variant is priced at Rs 41.2 lakh.
Reacting to the changes in buyers' preference after the ban on diesel cars (with engine capacity of 2,000cc and above), the second biggest luxury car company in India has decided to bring petrol variants across its product line up by first quarter of 2017.
"This is a challenging period for the industry. We expect more buyers to move to petrol variants in near future," said Joe King, head at Audi India.
The Supreme Court ban, imposed in the national capital region, was lifted in mid August. The ban primarily impacted market leader Mercedes but King said the development impacted sentiments of buyers, moving them away from diesel vehicles.
